In a 2024 survey conducted among Australians regarding consumer practices surrounding clothing disposal, around 83 percent of respondents indicated that an item no longer fitting or feeling uncomfortable was a key reason for them disposing of a clothing item. Discarding clothing that was damaged or showing signs of wear were the next most prevalent reasons for disposal among those surveyed.
