Nobel Literature Prize laureates 1901-2024
In 2024, the Nobel Prize in literature was awarded to Han Kang from South Korea, which was the first prize in literature awarded to a person from South Korea. The first woman to receive the Nobel literature prize was Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf in 1909. Nevertheless, only 18 women out of 117 have been rewarded the Nobel Prize in literature.
Jean-Paul Sartre and Boris Pasternak declined the prize, Pasternak was forced to do so.
