In the first quarter of 2024, the total number of agricultural workers in Israel was 59,500. This represented a slight increase of almost five percent in the sector's workforce from the previous quarter. Between the third and fourth quarters of 2023, the industry experienced a sharp decline of almost 22 percent in workers. As farmers in Israel are heavily reliant on foreign labor, following the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, many foreign workers left the country. This led to significant labor shortages.
