In 2023, those who were long-term unemployed accounted for around 10.5 percent of all unemployed people in Switzerland. This was a significant decrease compared to the previous year at 14.6 percent.
People who have been registered as unemployed for more than one year are considered long-term unemployed.

The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) defines registered unemployed people as those who are registered with a regional employment center, do not have a job and can be placed immediately. It is irrelevant whether these people receive unemployment benefits or not.
