Emissions of dust, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide from Large Combustion Plants (LCP) in the EU-27 have reduced significantly over the past two decades. Between 2004 and 2022, emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and dust from LCPs fell 92 percent, while emissions of NOx decreased by 70 percent. These reductions were largely driven by stricter emission limits values and policies, as well as the transition away from fossil fuel usage in energy production toward cleaner fuels.

Slovakia did not report any data from 2018, Malta did not report any data from 2019 and Czechia did not report data for 2022: in these cases the most recent data were used to gap-fill the trend.
