During the presidential election of 2024, the election winner, centrist Masoud Pezeshkian wins against Saeed Jalili in the run-offs, with 16.3 million votes against 13.5 million. The 2024 presidential election was a snap election, to select the successor of president Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, after he passed away during a helicopter crash in May 2024, together with the foreign minister and several other Iranian officials.
