The Italian Corruption Perceptions Index has constantly increased in the last decade, and almost 40 percent of the entrepreneurs stated that they must always or often pay a bribe for obtaining some advantages in their business sector. Hence, corruption is a widespread problem in Italian society. Around 20 percent of Italians considered acceptable that a parent agrees to pay money to find a job for his or her child. Moreover, 16 percent of the respondents tolerated a situation in which family members put in a good word for someone to get this person hired. By contrast, receiving gifts or money in exchange for one's vote in elections was considered highly intolerable, similarly to other forms of political corruption.
