In 2019, the global prevalence of anemia among children aged under five years was around 40 percent. At that time, the region of Sub-Saharan Africa had the highest prevalence of anemia among children, with almost 61 percent suffering from this condition. Risk factors for anemia among children include being born premature or with a low birth weight, living impoverished, a diet low in iron and other vitamins and minerals, and certain diseases and illnesses such as kidney disease, autoimmune diseases, and some cancers.
