In a recent study examining the fluorine concentration of selected outdoor apparel products the Rei Co-op Westwinds GTX Jacket for women, and the REI Co-op Drypoint GTX Jacket for men registered the highest fluorine concentrations, with 83,300 parts per million (ppm) and 82,000 ppm, respectively.
The presence of high levels of fluorine in outdoor apparel raises concerns due to its association with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly used in water-repellent finishes. PFAS have been linked to adverse health effects and environmental persistence.
