Numbers of free-floating car-sharing vehicles have been declining in Italy since 2019. While their number still stood at over 7,000 in 2019, there were under 4,700 free-floating car-sharing vehicles available in 2022. Meanwhile, station-based car-sharing vehicles have not been subject to the same downward trend.
In free-floating car-sharing schemes, vehicles do not need to be returned to the same location where they were picked up but can be dropped off anywhere within a usually pre-determined geographic area.
