In 2023, the gaming sector experienced a significant number of layoffs because of post-COVID industry contraction which has led to studio consolidation and ultimately, an estimated 11,250 video gaming employees losing their jobs. Additionally, 2024 is not shaping up to be much better, as already nearly 6,000 game developers lost their jobs during industry layoffs at the end of January and the total stood at almost 13,000 layoffs at the end of October.
