England's governing body for rugby league, the Rugby Football League (RFL), carried out over 700 anti-doping tests from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023. Over 500 of these tests were made outside of competitions, while 216 were carried out in competitions. This denoted an overall decrease from the previous year, however, the number of tests made in competitions was higher than any other year since 2016/17.
