The number of cities in the U.S. that are served by dockless bike and e-scooter schemes has seen some substantial variation over recent years but has risen from 32 schemes in 2017, which included no e-scooter schemes, to 207 schemes in 2023.
While the number of cities served by e-scooter schemes rose sharply in 2018 and 2019, then dropped again in 2020, it has been rising in the years since then, albeit more slowly. Meanwhile, the overall number of e-scooter schemes has dropped during the same period, as operators pull out of cities where they are losing ground to their competitors.
