The ethanol and biodiesel production capacity of the oil and gas sector worldwide amounted to some 3.2 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. This was the highest production capacity reported among different types of liquid biofuels, followed by that of renewable diesel, at about 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The global production of liquid biofuels is projected to reach 5.6 million barrels per day in 2030 under a net-zero emissions scenario.
