As of October 2022, it was estimated that about 66.2 percent of male working children aged five to 17 years in the Philippines were engaged in child labor, while 33.8 percent were female. The share of boys engaged in child labor gradually declined in the observed period.

Child labor is when children do unsafe work (called hazardous child labor) that is not safe or done in a dangerous environment. This is defined in DOLE Order No. 04 (1999) on "Hazardous work and activities to persons under eighteen (18) years old." It also includes work that lasts more than 40 hours, either at night or all day, by children between 15 and 17 years old. 12A (1) of RA No. 9231).
