The final consumption of aerothermal heat in the Netherlands increased significantly in 2022. This refers to the heat from the outside that is captured by heat pumps to increase the temperature in a building. While the aerothermal heat only amounted to 0.13 percent of the total energy consumption in 2016, that value reached 0.78 percent in 2022. During that period, there was a similar rise in the consumption of energy generated by heat pumps in Belgium.
