Carbon dioxide emissions from remaining hydrocarbons in active and planned oil and gas fields in the United Arab Emirates would amount to some 15.6 billion metric tons (GtCO₂) should they all be extracted and burned, out of which 14.3 GtCO₂ are from already producing fields alone. This is about half of global CO₂ emissions in 2022. Due to its oil and gas production, the United Arab Emirates ranks amongst the countries with the largest per capita CO₂ emissions worldwide.
