In 2022, there were almost 3.8 million ex-addicts who remained drug-free for more than three years after withdrawal in China, representing an increase of 11.4 percent from the previous year. The number of current drug users in China more than halved since 2018, thanks to increasingly stringent controls, severe punishments for traffickers, and tighter border controls after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
