In the fiscal year 2023, there were close to five thousand cases of unauthorized online banking withdrawals from bank accounts of individuals in Japan. This was the highest number of fraudulent withdrawals through internet banking in the past decade. The value of illegal withdrawals also increased to a record high.

The number of cases is the number of deposit holders. The figures include the number of cases of unauthorized withdrawals of deposits, etc., by persons other than the customer of the bank. Excluding withdrawals by a spouse or relatives and cases resulting from fraudulent applications for online banking with authentication information acquired fraudulently.
