The most polluting ship calling at European ports in 2023 was the Superfast Xi, which was responsible for over 130,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide. Superfast Xi is a Ro-pax ferry that connects Italy with Greece. The COSCO Shipping Libra container ship was the only vessel among the 20 most polluting ships entering/leaving European Economic Area (EEA) ports that wasn't a cruise ship or ferry.
