In Portugal, the number of banking operations increased over the period considered for all types of payment instruments. In 2023, electronic credit transfers amounted to 390 million, surpassing direct debits and credit card transactions, which totaled 259 million and 174 million, respectively. Debit card operations rose from 1.7 billion, in 2018, to almost 2.7 billion, in 2023.
