A third of three to 17-year-olds in the United States did not have access to a bike or a functional bike in their household, according to a 2022 survey. Among adults, more than half of the U.S. population did not have access to a functional bicycle in their household.

The data represents responses to the question "How many [adult/child] bicycles does your household own (adult bicycles)? How many of
those bicycles are operational?".
*For the 2022 edition of the survey, a total of 15,871 adults living in the United States were surveyed. Data on an additional 8,345 youth between the ages of 3 and 17 was collected by surveying respondents on young people living in their household. The survey was carried out in English.
Survey results were weighted for age, gender, region, income, and race and ethnicity to correspond to the 2021 population estimates of the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
