The United Kingdom had the strongest response to modern slavery in Europe and Central at 68 out of 100 points. This was also the highest score worldwide. The UK was followed by the Netherlands and Portugal. On the other hand, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Liechtenstein had the weakest government responses. A lack of resources and political will are the main reasons for their weak scores.

The Global Slavery Index contains data on modern slavery in 160 countries. The government response index measures the national efforts in 176 countries to end modern slavery, looking at legal, policy, and programmatic dimensions. An index score with a maximum of 100 points (best possible response) is given based on 141 indicators.
