Hydroelectric power plants were the main source of electricity in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in 2022. This energy source accounted for almost 780 terawatt-hours of electricity generated that year, or 46 percent of the electricity generation mix of the region. Non-renewable thermal energy followed.
