A Chinese survey conducted in 2022 found that those who were more physically active had a lower risk of developing depression. More than one in five Chinese people who had no regular physical exercises were susceptible to depression, while the figure was only one in 20 among those who exercised four times or more every week.
Prevalence of depression risks among the Chinese population in 2022, by frequency of physical exercise
42.5 percent of the respondents were male, while 57.5 percent were female. The average age of the respondents was 36.0 years. 66.6 percent of all respondents lived in urban areas. 47 percent of all respondents were residents in the eastern region, while residents from the central, western, and northeastern regions accounted for 24.4 percent, 23.9 percent, and 4.7 percent respectively.
