East Asia was the region with the greatest production capacity of ammonia in 2023, with approximately 69.99 million metric tons. The production capacity for this region is expected to expand to around 73 million metric tons in 2028.
Ammonia is a basic chemical and a building block used in the production of many everyday products, with its main application being the manufacture of agricultural fertilizers. Ammonia can be applied on its own as a fertilizer, although it is most commonly converted into other nitrogen products such as urea or nitrates.
