In the 2021 financial year in Australia, over 20 percent of the population aged between 16 and 85 years had experienced a substance disorder at some point in their lifetime. Mental disorders are broadly classified by the source into lifetime mental disorders, referring to people who had experienced a mental disorder at some point during their life, and 12-month mental disorders, when people had sufficient symptoms of a disorder in the 12 months prior to the survey.
