Total refugee population in Brazil 2001-2023

In 2023, the number of refugees residing in Brazil increased by 168.2 thousand refugees (+249.11 percent) compared to 2022. With 235.76 thousand refugees, the number of refugees residing thereby reached its highest value in the observed period.
Refugee population includes people who are outside of their country of origin for reasons of feared persecution, conflict, generalized violence, or other circumstances that have seriously disturbed public order and, therefore, require international protection. Country or territory of asylum is the country or territory where an asylum claim was filed and granted.
