In 2023, the global chemical industry saw a number of merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions, the largest share of which involved the base and petrochemicals sector, accounting for a 40 share of the overall deal volume. This sector was followed by specialty chemicals, and distributors and others. The relative weight of these sub-sectors can provide an insight into the different strategies and opportunities that chemical companies pursued in a dynamic and competitive environment that year.
