In 2023, only one-half of nurses will likely encourage others to become nurses in the United States. According to this 2023 survey, the share of registered nurses in the U.S. who are likely to encourage others to become nurses stood at 50 percent. That year, only 23 percent of surveyed registered nurses stated that it was extremely likely that they would encourage others to become a nurse, while a third thought it unlikely.

The question was framed as "How likely are you to encourage others to become a nurse?"
The survey polled more than 800,000 Registered Nurses in the United States from Jan. 5 to Jan. 18, 2023, and received 18,226 completed questionnaires used in this report, of which 11,918 were from staff nurses with the remainder being travel nurses, per diem and other. The margin of error is 1% at a 99% confidence level, and the response rate is 2.5%.
