From 2015 to 2023, registered nurses mostly held high career satisfaction rates in the United States. According to this survey, in 2023, over 70 percent of registered nurses in the U.S. stated to be satisfied with their choice of nursing as a career. Nonetheless, satisfaction rates have significantly declined during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, the share of registered nurses who said they were extremely satisfied or somewhat satisfied with their choice of nursing as a career fell by ten percent.

The question was framed as ''How satisfied are you with your choice of nursing as a career?''
The survey polled more than 800,000 Registered Nurses in the United States from Jan. 5 to Jan. 18, 2023, and received 18,226 completed questionnaires used in this report, of which 11,918 were from staff nurses with the remainder being travel nurses, per diem and other. The margin of error is 1% at a 99% confidence level, and the response rate is 2.5%.
