As of 2018, age-standardized mortality rate for cervical cancer was highest amongst Black African females, with 17.92 deaths per 100,000 population. Colored females followed with 9.57 deaths per 100,000 population in the same year. The markedly higher rate for Black African females is possibly due to a high incidence of HIV which contributes to intensifying cancer causing HPV. Another contributing factor could be that there is a lack of awareness and the inability to afford regular medical check-ups.
