Among LGBTQIA+ couples in Canada, married couples were more likely than common-law couples to have children in 2021. In addition, same-sex couples of two cisgender women (whose gender matches the sex assigned at birth), and transgender couples (people whose gender does not match the sex assigned at birth) were more likely to have children than cisgender male couples or non-binary couples.
In 2021, the Canadian government's national population census recorded 127,640 LGBTQIA+ couples.
