During COVID-19 between March 2020 and March 2022, 26.7 percent of hybrid international conferences hosted by organizers in Japan that were held online entailed expenses between one and five million Japanese yen as well as those with costs of more than 40 million yen. The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the majority of organizers to change in-person events to online or hybrid events.
