As of December 2022, California was the U.S. state with the highest ratio of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) per 1,000 people. At around 27.55 vehicles per 1,000 people, the Golden State surpassed all other states by at least 10 vehicles. Hawaii and Washington were second and third in the ranking, with 15.43 and 14.5 PEVs per 1,000 inhabitants.
