The field of medicine was the second-most common type of international conference.

For an event to be considered an international conference, following four conditions have to be met:
1. Hosting organization has to be either an international organization or group, or a national organization or group.
2. Event has to have 50 or more participants.
3. Event has to have three or more regions or nationalities represented, including Japan.
4. Period of the event has to be of one day or more.
