Black carbon emissions in Mexico have oscillated since the beginning of the century, despite being on a mostly downward trend. In 2021, Mexican emissions of black carbon reached around 66,400 metric tons, down from 72,200 metric tons in the previous year. Black carbon is a sooty material emitted from gas and diesel engines, and other fossil fuel sources.
