The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is an increasingly important part of the European economy, with tech companies and digital services firms from the EU competing on the world stage. The countries with the largest ICT sectors in terms of value added are, unsurprisingly, the two largest economies in the EU, Germany and France. After these economic giants, we can see a number of smaller member states who have begun to specialize in ICT services, such as Sweden and Belgium.
Towards the end of the list come a number of Central & Eastern European member states, such as Croatia and the Baltic member states (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania). As these are absolute and not per capita numbers, this may be misleading as to the importance of the ICT sector to these economies, as the Baltic countries have comparatively large digital services and tech sectors for their small populations and economies, while member states such as Croatia, Bulgaria, and Greece have much less digitalized economies.
