In 2022, the crude steel production in the selected European countries was lower than the previous year. The production volume of Germany, by far the major manufacturing country, dropped by eight percent and amounted to 36.8 million metric tons that year. Energy crises related to the Russia-Ukraine war and the weak steel demand inside the union have affected the European steel industry.
