The digitalization of medium sized firms in the European Union, or those with between 10 and 250 employees, is a key aim of the EU's digitalization strategy. These firms form the backbone of the European economy, being a large source of employment and value added.
In terms of how digitalized medium-sized companies in the EU are in 2022, there is a sharp divide between Western and Northern member states, such as Sweden, Ireland, and Finland, and newer member states in Central & Eastern Europe, such as Bulgaria and Romania. On average, the majority of medium-sized companies in the EU report either high or very high digital intensity in their work.
