In 2023, the urban and rural resident basic medical insurance fund in China received an income of 1,057 billion yuan, while spending more than 1,045.8 billion yuan. Most basic medical insurance participants in China were beneficiaries of the resident basic medical insurance program. However, the resident medical insurance fund received significantly lower funding than the employee basic medical insurance fund.
