In January 2023, it was estimated that Discord had approximately 563 million registered users, up by over 87 percent compared to the 300 million users reported in June 2020. Between 2017 and 2020, users registering to join the popular Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) platform and social media Discord grew from 45 million to approximately 300 million. Discord, which was launched in 2015, is known to be a gamers-first online space and community hosting platform, as it allows users to communicate both via chat and voice channels, as well as live stream gaming sessions.
