In 2023, the number of people working in Portugal's renewable energy sector surpassed a 45,000. Solar photovoltaics had the largest workforce, with approximately 16,800 employees that year. This was followed by solid biomass and hydropower, with employment figures amounting to 13,300 and 6,100, respectively. Meanwhile, only around 200 people were employed in Portugal's geothermal sector in 2023.
