In 2023, Italy's net foreign exchange of electricity amounted to approximately 51 terawatt-hours. That included 54.6 terawatt-hours of electricity imported from other countries, and 3.3 terawatt-hours exported to other countries. Over the past few years, electricity imports to Italy always exceeded the electricity exports from this country. However, imported electricity was only a small fraction of the overall electricity demand in Italy, which amounted to 306 terawatt-hours in 2023.
