According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Kenya had the largest number of special economic zones (SEZs) in Africa. In 2020, the country had 61 SEZs. Nigeria and Ethiopia followed with 38 and 18 SEZs, respectively. On the other hand, the African Economic Zones Organisation (AEZO) reported different figures with Morocco topping the continent with 26 SEZs, while Nigeria and Egypt followed with 23 and 16 SEZs, respectively.
