According to a survey conducted in 2022 on gender equality in Japan, over 50 percent of respondents did not know the term "#MeToo". Around 19 percent reported to be familiar with the term and its meaning.
The hashtag "#MeToo" was used on social media to publicize people's experience with sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
