In 2021, Algeria had the highest value of gross domestic savings in North Africa, with a sum of around 61 billion U.S. dollars. The second highest gross domestic savings were in Morocco, at approximately 31 billion U.S. dollars. Among the years under review in the selected countries, the figures were mostly positive, with the exception of Libya in 2020. That year, Libya experienced negative savings of minus 65.8 billion U.S. dollars. Gross domestic saving refers to a country's GDP minus the final consumption expenditure.
