As of October 2022, almost one-third (32 percent) of adults surveyed in the United States said they preferred to watch classic horror movies, while little more than one-fifth (21 percent) said they preferred newly released films from that genre. Among respondents who reported liking or loving horror movies, the preference for classics decreased to 27 percent. Meanwhile, almost half (48 percent) of interviewees who said they disliked or hated the genre reported a preference for classic horror films. According to another study conducted around that same time, "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th" were the favorite horror film franchises in the U.S.
