Between 2020 and 2024, job vacancies in the construction industry in Canada have fluctuated significantly. In 2022, there was a peak in the vacancy rate. That coincided with a worry about shortages of low-wage workers, which also affected the construction industry. During that period, there has been indeed an increase in the number of open positions in the construction industry, peaking at 94,530 open positions in April 2022. Approximately 8.3 percent of all occupied and vacant jobs in the construction industry were vacant. The construction occupations with most vacancies were mainly blue-collar positions.
