Nearly 49 percent of total Schengen Area (uniform) visas issued in consulates located in Russia were multiple-entry visas (MEVs). In other words, they allowed to spend travelers up to 90 days within an 180-day period with a possibility to re-enter without having to applying for a new visa. The highest share of MEVs over the observed period was recorded in 2021, prior to the war in Ukraine and subsequent entry restrictions for Russian tourists. In total, around 220.9 thousand MEVs were issued in consulates within Russia in 2023.
